10-07-025 – Adams Cavalry Revolver – Standard pattern Adams cavalry revolver as used extensively by Confederate cavalry during the Civil War. This one made by Francotte. Has 6 inch 5 groove rifled barrel. The cylinder is a 5 shot 44 caliber. Markings include “AF” under a Crown and also “No 13497”. This gun is made with an integrated barrel and frame. The frame is heavily marked “ADAMS / 1851 / PATENT”, “ADAM’S PATENT No. 13497” “Crown / AF” and the number “43” and a “Crown / T”. On top of the frame over the cylinder is reads “MANUFD BY A. FRANCOTTE LICENSED BY R. ADAMS & CO LONDON” . These Adams revolvers are double action so all you have to do is pull the trigger, and the gun will cock, index, and fire all in one motion. Overall VG condition with faint areas of blue remaining in protected areas and some areas of plum patina. The checkered wood grip is in very good condition, with a tiny chip near the butt, and a small chip on the thumb spur. There is a small dented area under the muzzle, and one of the nipples is a touch flattened, these mentioned simply for the sake of 100% accuracy. A solid, tight, and complete Adams perfect to display with a Confederate cavalry saber. $1,495.00

10-07-026 – Emerson & Silver Cavalry Saber – This is the M1860 light Cavalry saber. It is marked on the ricasso “US / JM / 1864” and also “EMERSON & SILVER / TRENTON / NJ”. The blade is 34 3/4 inches long, and has some salt and peppering to it, but no nicks, and the original leather washer is present also. The grip is superb, with 100% leather and all original wire. The brass guard has a couple bent spots and has a rather dark age patina. The scabbard is in VG condition with a dark brown patina, and has a very minor dent near the drag. An authentic and 100% original and genuine Civil War Cavalry saber at a reasonable price. $635.00

10-07-027 – Model 1842 Percussion US Navy Box Lock Pistol – These box lock pistols were made by either Ames or De ringer, and the one here is manufactured by Ames and is marked on the lock “N.P. AMES / SPRINGFIELD / MASS” and the rear of the lock is stamped “USN / 1844”. The gun is a 54 Caliber smoothbore with a 6” bar rel. The barrel is marked near the breech but the markings have been obscured by some pitting. What remains visible is “1843/RC/P”. The barrel has a plum brown patina, and is VG except for the small area near the bolster. The gun has a single brass barrel band, and a swivel style ramrod. The single piece wood stock is in VG condition, it does have an ancient chip missing from just below the front of the lock, and there is a slight crack behind the barrel band where the ramrod channel is. There is also a slight crack where the screw on the left hand side goes into the wood, and about 3 inches behind this screw you can make out an oval inspectors mark. These don’t detract from the appealing condition of this VG Naval pistol. 100% original and mechanically correct. The action is slightly gummy but nothing serious. $1,195.00

10-07-028 – 44 Caliber Pinfire Revolver – Lefaucheux pattern but unsigned. This gun has a 6 3/8 inch rifled round barrel, and a heavily engraved frame, cylinder, and grips. The engraving on the frame and backstrap is an ornate floral design. On the cylinder, the designs are in 4 eye shaped panels with inlayed gold or brass lines and accents. These gold accents are also present on the top of the barrel where it meets the frame. The grips are 2 pieces of hard ebony or similar black wood, with a very fine grain and are carved with a leaf motif. The right section of grip has been repaired near the top. The trigger guard has also been repaired in the front section where it meets the frame. This gun is missing the loading gate. Has lanyard ring in the butt. A very affordable mid 19th century antique revolver. $350.00 AED

10-07-029 – Rare Bacon Cartridge Revolver w/ Removable Trigger Guard – This is a 32 caliber 6 Shot revolver with a 4 inch octagon barrel. The gun measures about 8 1/2 inches long overall, and has the unique feature of a removable Trigger Guard which allows for the gun to be opened for reloading. Ingenious. This gun is designed so that you have to remove the 1” cylinder to load the weapon with the rimfire cartridges. Like many pistols the rear sight is on the hammer and is to be used when the gun is cocked and ready to fire. The barrel is marked “BACON MF’G CO. NORWICH CONN. / DEPOT 297 BROADWAY, N.Y.”. These were factory blued, and some of the color remains on the cylinder and some protected areas. The walnet grips are in VG+ condition, and overall the gun is overall VG. The movable trigger guard has a weld repair and must be handled gently when disassembling. An extremely rare revolver with just a few hundred manufactured. $850.00

10-07-030 – Belgian Made Lefaucheux Style Pinfire Revolver – This 6 shot revolver has a 6 inch .44 Caliber round barrel, with Liege proof marks. There is also an Olde English style CSA stamped into the frame that I would not believe for any reason. I have seen dozens, if not hundreds, of similar pinfire revolvers so marked over the past forty odd years and in my opinion all the CSA marks found on them are “BS”. It sure looks old and real though. The gun itself is great, just don’t put any value on that little mark. I have tried to picture the abundant proof marks, they include a Star over an X and various Crowns over letters. The two piece wood grips have some dents and moderate handling wear. The cylinder has quite a bit of blue remaining, and the frame and barrel have a medium plum brown patina. The gun is missing the front sight, but otherwise ap pears to be complete. 10-07-031 – Pond 4” Pocket Revolver w/ Smith & Wesson Marking – This was one of the 4,486 revolvers made at the Pond factory when they lost a patent suit filed against them by Smith & Wesson. As a result, this gun has an additional marking on the barrel “MANUF’D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT’D APRIL 5, 1855” it also has the standard “LW POND WORCES TER MASS. PAT’D JULY 10 1860”. The gun itself is a 6 shot 32 caliber rimfire revolver and is numbered 387 on the barrel, butt, and cylinder pin. It is overall VG condition and totally complete except for the missing screw driver tool in the butt,… otherwise complete. The frame is the steel version, and shows age patina. . The grips are in VG+ condition and have a lovely grain, nice edges, and are a perfect fit to the gun. An overall VG revolver. $495.00 CHJ

10-07-032 – Confederate Colonel J.H. McNeill’s 5th N.C. Cavalry Revolver, Holster, and Saber – These items descended through the family of the original owner, Colonel James Hipkins McNeill 5th NC Cavalry, and have been owned by only two collectors since they surfaced over 25 years ago. Included with the gun are letters from the previous two owners, including good friend and fellow collector Bruce Jackson of Nashville, who originally found the weapons at a Nashville estate sale. . He relates the entire story of the weapons turning up in an estate sale he attended and then tracking the historical family connection back to McNeill. J. H. McNeill had been living in New York City at the out break of the war, and immediately went back to his home town of Fayetteville, NC and entered the Confederate army as a Chaplain. He had served in this capacity until late in 1862 when he organized Company A and served as their Captain.

He later attained the rank of Colonel which he held until his untimely death at the battle of Five Forks (Chamberlains Run) in April of 1865. In June of 1863 his company was involved in a skirmish at Middleburg Virginia, and through the course of the fighting he was one of dozen or so wounded on the field. His company then went on and con tinued fighting throughout VA and parts of PA. When the fighting broke out at Five Forks, Colonel James McNeill was one of 7000 confederates that was killed, wounded, or captured by Sheridan’s and Warren’s troops.

McNeill’s saber is a M1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber, marked “N. P. AMES / CABOTVILLE /1846” and “US / NWP” and the saber and scabbard are both in VG to FINE condition. The blade is without bends, nick free, and has a pleasing aged steel patina. The leather grip has dried out a touch, but looks great, and is in Fine condition with original wire wrapping. The guard is likewise in fine condition as well, with only the slight est handling wear, and a light patina. The scabbard is likewise in VG+ condition with a smooth dark brown patina, and no damage or defects of significance.

We also have in the grouping McNeill’s S &W #2 Revolver and his holster. The pistol is in Fine condition and has about 60% of the factory blue remaining and bearing serial number “15740”, with matching batch numbers (837) on the cylinder and barrel. This 32 caliber rimfire has a 6” barrel which is marked “SMITH & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD, MASS” The gun is fitted with super fine rosewood grips, with very crisp edges. This gun is 100% original and mechanically perfect. The holster is magnificent and form fitted to the revolver… just the way McNeill used them during the war.. The leather is gently handled and shows some crazing and wear but has much appeal. The belt loop has been removed, but the seams are good. I personally have known both of the previous owners of this lot for decades and can attest that the historical attribution on them is 100% solid. $3950.00 ycfjjv

10-07-033 – Really Nice Dog River Confederate Cavalry Saber (possibly made by Haimann) – This wonderful Johnny Reb saber is overall VG + condition with the only slight damage being a small chip in the tip of the blade… otherwise really nice. Blade is about 25.5 inches long. The blade is 1 1/4 inches wide at the ricasso, and has a single unstopped fuller that starts 10” from the tip and goes to within an inch of the guard. The blade also has a false edge on the last 9” on the top of the blade. The spine of the blade is squared off like that of a union heavy cav saber and is over a 1/4 inch at its widest. The blade has a couple minor nicks, but overall VG. The grip is black leather over wood, overall good to VG and the single strand of copper wire is a proper replacement as the original was missing when found. The brass three branch guard is in VG+ condition, and has a light brown patina. The scabbard is 38 inches long, has the classic rough and crude edge seam. The drag and throat are steel the ring mounts brass, with iron rings. The overall length of the saber in the scabbard is 43 1/2 inches. I have just done a price check on the internet and find a Philadelphia area dealer has one in a European scabbard at $4200. A Florida dealer has real nice one in the proper scabbard at $5500. The only other “fair deal” I found was a Gettysburg shop offering one with a pitted blade and no scabbard whatsoever at $2,450.00. Here is a very fair buy for an original CSA cavalry saber in the original CSA scabbard… $3,850.00 yccjjx

10-07-034 – Fine Ames Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber – The 32 inch blade is in Fine condition and is smooth with no nicks or pitting. The scabbard is likewise in fine condition with a few minor nicks and some age staining. The drag is stamped with an “H”. . The ricasso is marked “AMES MFG / CHICOPEE / MASS” on one side and “U.S. / ADK / 1863?’ “ It is either an 1863 or ‘62 but I’ll leave that to you to decide as my eyes aren’t what they once were. The brass guard and pommel show only honest handling age. The quillon has “51” stamped into it. The leather grip rates a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. This fresh piece is a fine deal at $950.00

10-07-035 – Model 1860 Naval Cutlass w/ scabbard – This regulation cutlass has the proper slightly curved 26” blade that is marked with an “1861” date on one side, and a scroll style Ames Mfg. mark on the other. The blade is a smokey grey and has a couple really minor nicks towards the tip but is in VG condition overall. The brass basket guard has minor handling dents but nothing detrimental. It is stamped with “No 67” as an identification mark. All of the brass is bright with a few minor areas of green patina forming. The leather grip is fine just showing some expected wear and light loss of leather. It has no twisted wire wrap which is proper as the wire was removed later by USN directive as the brass in contact with leather in salt air caused too much verdigris to form.. The leather scabbard is likewise VG and the early style with rivets along the entire length of the back seam. Also present is the original buff frog. The scabbard has had a couple repairs to strengthen up two weak spots, and a reinforcing drag was long ago fashioned out of leather A great early 1861 dated cutlass… $1175.00

0-07-036 – Non-regulation Semi Cavalry Officer’s sword – This sword has a rather straight 32 3/4 inch blade with a false edge from the tip up 12 inches, and a single fuller which starts 1 1/2 inches from the hilt and goes to about 11 inches from the tip. The blade is etched on both sides, one having an eagle and military motifs, the other bearing similar motifs and a “US”. The overall look is of a fine condition lightly frosted grey appearance. The spine is slightly rounded and is marked “IRON PROOF”. The ricasso has a gold colored circular proof mark on one side, and is stamped “W. WALSCHEID / SOLINGEN” on the other. The iron three branched guard is very reminiscent of a cavalry saber. The pommel is a singular piece that also forms the backstrap of the grip. The grip is covered with a fine shark skin wrap that is in VG++ condition just showing a little handling wear. It is wrapped with 3 strands of wire, one twisted and two single. All of the steel parts have a lovely dark plum patina. The scabbard has a nice plum patina that matches the guard perfectly. It is in VG ++ condi tion with a slight pinched area about a foot from the drag. Very handsome $750.00
