1003a – Superb Colt Pocket with 6” Barrel Revolver: NRA “Excellent” condition. This ‘49 Pocket is top shelf all the way. The barrel retains 90% or more rich factory blue. The frame and hammer retain 75% or more vivid case color, rammer has traces of case color. The cylinder retains 100% cylinder scene and generous traces of factory blue. The grips are excellent with just the lightest handling wear and a tiny chip out of the right front toe. All serial numbers match including the wedge… sn 209,806. Most of the safety pins are intact on the back of the cylinder. This is a crisp high finish Colt that you can be proud to display in your gun room. When I found this the internal hand was missing, so we bought one and installed it. The gun cocks fine, but the hand is a little long and the cylinder sometimes needs a little push to help it get started. The owner’s initials C.H. are engraved on the bottom of the butt strap. 1003b – Model 1914 Swiss Pioneer Bayonet – This is a very intimidating and functional bayonet nearly identical to the German “Butcher Bayonets” but used by the officially neutral, self defending – Swiss Army during the first World War. The blade is a full 19” long with heavy serrations along the spine of blade. The ricasso is stamped “Waffenfabrik Neuhausen”and is the only marking on the bayonet. The scabbard has 2 small proof stamps near the throat and a small Swiss cross on the finial at the tip of the scabbard. The pictures are accurate and show the very good condition overall. 1003c – Classic John Wilkes Booth Type Deringer – A wonderful and complete silver mounted percussion deringer similar in style and design to the one Booth used to kill Lincoln. This is roughly 44 caliber and smooth bore. The stock is a straight grain walnut with hand checkered bag style grip. The lower ramrod thimble is silver as is the nose cap and all three escutcheons. The trigger guard is engraved steel. The lock, hammer, and barrel tang are all finely hand engraved. The breech is inlaid with two thin lines of silver. The gun is unsigned so the maker of this well made gun remains anonymous. A very handsome and totally original and complete deringer which measures roughly eight inches overall length. 1003d – New Hampshire Soldier’s Eagle War of 1861 Dog tag – This dog tag belonged to Martin F. Moore who was the regimental musician in company “K” of the 13th NH Vol. Infantry. Our man Martin enlisted in 1862 at the age of 18 into Co. B of the 13th, later to be transferred into the 22nd V.R.C. and then in June of 1864 returned to the 13th, this time in Company K. His dog tag reflects this dual B & K company status. You can see where the K has been stamped over the B on the dog tag. The 13th NHV saw action at Fredericksburg, Drewry’s Bluff, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. A very fine example of the “standard” Civil War dog tag. $895.00

1003l – Early War M-1859 New Model Sharps Rifle – What a great warhorse of a gun. Attractive attic brown patina on the barrel and other metal parts. The bore is clean, but shows wear from shooting. The action is in perfect working condition. This is the early war production Sharps with saber bayonet lug under the barrel. It is overall NRA “very good” condition. It is complete and mechanically perfect. There is a small wood repair in the toe of the butt. The gun is 100% original and complete save for two replaced screws. Serial number is 43525. These Sharps rifles were made famous by such units as the Pennsylvania Bucktails, Berdan’s Sharpshooters, and numerous state militia regiments lucky enough to get issued such fine breech loaders. 1003m – John Brown Sharps / One Serial Number Off a Known John Brown Gun ! These 1853 slant-breech Sharps are famous for a number of reasons, but foremost because 200 were purchased in 1856 by or for abolitionist John Brown by the Kansas Aid Committee and were shipped to Kansas in crates labeled as containing Bibles. Hence these carbines are sometimes referred to as Beecher’s Bibles. The carbines were then used by Brown and his men in Kansas and again when they attempted to take over the Arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia). Brown’s tragic fate is known, but the guns used by him remain largely unknown, with only a few dozen serial numbers recorded as having been purchased for him. The records for the other guns have not yet been discovered, but new data shows up every year and we hope to find more numbers with each research project undertaken. What makes this carbine so interesting is that it bears serial number 15,861 which is one digit off a gun known to have been shipped to John Brown. While this does not PROVE this gun was part of the Kansas shipment, it does increase the likelihood. We hope that the other serial numbers will be uncovered in a state or private archive. In any event this is a very honest Model 1853 Sharps. It is 100% original, 100% complete (except for small elevator slide on rear sight), mechanically perfect, and very solid. The steel surfaces are gun metal grey, lightly cleaned, with some areas of gentle age peppering. The barrel is stamped Sharps Rifle Manuf’g Co. Hartford Conn. The tang is marked Sharps Patent 1848 and bears serial number 15861. The lock is marked Sharps Patent 1853. The bore is excellent with sharp rifling and no rust or pitting. The wood is very attractive with a deep amber tone and some checking in the grain. The wood to metal and metal to metal fit is excellent. This is a really tight example of the John Brown Sharps. The only missing element is the small sliding elevation bar on the rear sight. $4,500.00

1003n – Low Serial Number – M1860 Spencer Saddle Ring Carbine – This is the standard issue Civil War Spencer in overall very good condition. This gun is 100% original and complete and is in perfect working condition. The majority of the metal has a muted plum brown patina, and matches the smokey gray hammer nicely. The wood has some expected handling wear and light dents but no damage or abuse. The left side of the stock clearly shows the “DAP” inspector’s cartouche. The only small wart on this carbine is an inconsequential small crack in the forearm just where it meets the frame (see photo). (This is the area where we frequently see the wood broken out of the forearm.) This is a great martially marked Spencer with LOW serial number of 14,445. This is a carbine from the first batch of carbines to come out of the factory. I just researched the serial number in the Springfield Research Services book and it is dead in the middle of the range of other Spencers issued to the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry. This number (14,445) does not hit — but is certainly in the range. The Spencer was the state of the art repeating rifle during the Civil War, the assault rifle of the era…. and this is a good solid representative specimen that you can be proud to display in your collection room or den… $2450.00

1003o – Union Cavalryman’s 5th Model Burnside Carbine – This Burnside definitely saw service in the saddle with a Yankee cavalryman. It is solid and complete and shows the unmistakable evidence of ancient war time bumps and bruises found only on carbines that were “really there”. The gun is NRA “very good” … 100% original and complete, and mechanically perfect. The wood has great color and a vivid inspector’s cartouche, and shows just the right amount of handling age to let us know it was a gun that really fought Johnny Reb. 1003p – Indian War Staff Officer’s Sword – Model 1860 Staff & Field: Overall fine condition, with a near mint blade. The scabbard is free from dents and has a nickel silver finish and gilt brass mounts. The grip is leather covered and has the full compliment of twisted wire wrap. The blade is bright and shiny and is deeply etched with US, military, and floral motifs. The scabbard has the number 9 near the throat, and the ring mounts also have the number 9 cast into each. The blade is stamped with what looks like a little beaver — presumably a Solingen maker’s touch mark. These M1860 staff swords were used from the Civil War through the Spanish American War… most were used in the latter periods. This one is likely 1880s to 1890s and perfect for Indian War or SAW display. $265.00

1003q – Ames Model 1833 Dragoon Saber w 1836 Date- One of the scarcer American swords to find in nice condition is this ‘33 Ames Dragoon Saber. These were used by US Dragoons (cavalry) from the time of the Battle of the Alamo, The Seminole Indian Wars, The Mexican War, Service on The Western Frontier and Texas, and of course The Civil War. This is a very nice example with inspector’s marks “T.W.”on the drag, and the blade and quillon are inspected “J.M.” The blade is in extra fine condition with a clean steel surface and very clear and deep needle engraving “United States” on one side and “N P Ames Cutler Springfield 1836”. The scabbard has one crease about 12 inches from the drag, but otherwise fine with no rust or pitting. It has traces of original lacquer brown finish. The grip leather and twisted wire wrap are PERFECT restorations which I had done professionally by one of the two true sword artisans still working today. If I didn’t mention it, it would not even cross your mind. It is that good. A really top notch example of a very scarce sword… $1,295.00

1003r – Union Officer’s Sword – Peterson 75 – This sword is referred to by collectors as the Peterson figure 75 because it appears in Harold Peterson’s book The American Sword as illustration figure #75. It is more accurately labeled the imported, non-regulation, US officer’s sword. This sword is in fine condition with an ultra fine blade which retains 80% of the original frosty luster and polish on the top 2/3rds of the blade. There is a small amount of pitting on portions of the bottom 1/3 of the blade. The ricasso is stamped “Clauberg Solingen” and has a deep “Proved” stamp on the other side. The steel guard and backstrap have a lovely deep patina. The guard has nice detail and “E Pluribus Unum” above the large spread-winged eagle which makes up the guard. The grip is sharkskin covered with twisted wire wrap. The scabbard has a nice smooth brown age patina and a few dents from period use. Overall a fine example of the Peterson 75. $875.00

1003s – Model 1843 Hall-North Percussion Carbine – These Halls are considered one of the more advanced US arms because the design (which dates back to just after the War of 1812) was a breech loading design. The soldier pushes the lever on the side of the gun and the breech block pivots upward for loading. This Model 1843 Hall was one of the 5000 that were upgraded to the 58 caliber rifled bore. Many of these worked there way to the 2nd and 9th Illinois Cavalry Regiments during the Civil War. This gun is in Very Good condition, and bears two cartouches, one on either side of the stock near the breech. The gun is 100% original and complete and in good working order. The stock, near the buttplate has been carved “A-N.T.B.” this was done contemporary to the gun’s period of use. The metal is overall brown patina with a uniform light pitting overall. The wood is in VG condition with good edges and expected wear. In this day and age where other dealers are asking this much for a Burnside carbine, the Hall is a heck of a deal at… $1650.00

1003t – Tintype Photo / Armed Rebel Killing Yankee Trooper: A superb, spectacular, mint ninth plate tintype showing our fearless Union mounted troop wearing a dashing black slouch hat emblazoned with company letter “M” and crossed sabers insignia. He likewise sports his regulation Cavalry jacket with 12 button front. Note that he has turned the high collar down for comfort. He holds his light cavalry saber in one hand with the sword knot clearly visible. His belt is a harness leather enlisted saber belt constructed without rivets, which would tend to indicate 1863 or earlier construction. This is a really top drawer cavalry tintype with superb clarity, contrast, and composition. It is housed in a very nice ninth plate thermoplastic case (sometimes erroneously called gutta percha) with the design of a bee hive, plow,and rake on it. Top drawer image in all respects. (Ninth plate image proper is 2.5 x 2 inches in size. The ninth plate case measures 3 x 2.5 inches) A great Civil War photo — $375.00

1003u – Two Civil War Era Travel Mirrors – We have two mirrors that both share the same design. Each is made from wood, with a pivoting cover. They would also normally have an additional block of wood that would help the cover lock in place, but this wood is missing on both of these mirrors. The smaller of the two is just about 5” by 3” while the larger one measures 6” by 3 3/4”. Small $95.00 Large $115.00

1003w – Oval US Buckle – This buckle appears to have been exposed to either some high heat, or chemicals during its day, as is evedenced by the discoloration on the upper right. Some of the lead on the back has either been cleaned away, or melted from the heat. $235.00

1003y – Superb Union Army Cavalry Jacket: Another top quality and condition regulation jacket, this one piped in yellow for cavalry. This coat is in superb condition and is extra high quality with the yellow piping being hand sewn to the blue wool as opposed to being machine sewn as we see on the Cinti Depot jackets. This is lined in cream color muslin. The right sleeve lining bears a size number “2”. The left sleeve has initials “GWJ” which may be the inspector’s initials. Excellent condition throughout with a couple areas of restitching where an interior lining seam needed to be closed. Complete with all the buttons, and is tight and sound with great vivid color. $2,950.00

1003z – Union Veteran’s Kepi: This is the cap worn by members of the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) in all the parades and at the reunions. This one dates to 1890s. Body is rich blue wool. Front of cap is embroidered in gold bullion with a wreath and letters GAR. The side buttons are US staff buttons. This has the lining but is lacking the sweat band. The black lining is pulled loose from the edges. A great Civil War related cap — $235.00

1003aa – Superb Union Army Artillery Jacket: Top quality and condition regulation red trimmed artilleryman’s jacket. This is one of the 1864 contract coats that wound up as war surplus… the ones we used to buy for $75 each back when we were young and thin. (Yeah that was a long time ago.)
