This is known as the Eighth issue, and differs from the other issues by having a rounded more comfortable grips. The gun carries the Ethan Allen & Co. markings on the barrel, and is an ex-museum piece and still carries the museums stocking number on the underside of the barrel. 1002b – “THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED” SHAVING RAZOR ! Superb Patriotic Wade & Butcher Civil War razor with horn handle and etched blade with the patriotic motto etched into the face of the blade “The Union Must and Shall Be Preserved”. This motto is seen on Civil War tokens, stationery, etc… “Scarce” does not even begin to impart the rarity of this Civil War antique. In the forty years I have been hunting for this stuff this is the only one of this pattern that I can recall finding. Perfect for display with the soldier’s personal items. 1002c – RARE 1864 WASHINGTON ARSENAL PACKAGE SHARPS RIFLE AMMO: We see the Sharps factory made packages frequently enough, but finding US Arsenal made packages of Sharps rifle and carbine ammunition is a darn rare event. This complete pasteboard package of ten cartridges bears the label from the Washington Arsenal. The lid is open on three sides so we can easily view the cartridges. 1002e – High Grade Refinished Plant/Eagle Arms Restoration – Near Mint, as Refinished with faux ivory grips and rich blue finish (refinish). Looks like a $2000 example but infinitely affordable. This is the 30 cal. pocket revolver that was produced by Eagle Manufacturing Co. and sold by Plant. This gun has the rarer barrel marking of “Reynolds, Plant’s & Hotchkiss, New Haven, Conn.” This gun looks like a million dollars, functions perfectly, and is a real eye catcher on display. 1002f – Silver Finish Moore 6 shooter – This is a 32 caliber revolver with a 3 1/4 inch barrel, and the Bird’s head butt. This gun has about 98% of the silver plated finish, and as you know it is almost unheard of to find them in this condition. The grips show a bit of wear along the edges, but this could easily be toned down. The gun indexes fine, as long as the gun is pointed towards the ground. A rare finish gun that would display beautifully.

1002g – Plant / Eagle Arms Pocket Revolver: This is the 30 cal. pocket revolver that was produced by Eagle
Manufacturing Co. and sold by Plant. It is basically a small version of the larger Plant revolvers, fits into the palm of your hand. Merwin and Bray barrel legend is crisp. Complete except for the tiny little retaining button on the bottom of the cylinder pin. Does not index well … Main spring is fine, it cocks, the hand works, but the cylinder will not index when the hammer is pulled. I believe the angle at which the hand extends needs to be reduced. At this el-cheapo price you get to fix it. sn 2403 A great small Civil War revolver priced like a give away. $255.00

1002h – Superb “From Life” CDV Size Albumen Photo of a Bearded Union Officer with his horse … in the field… candid and a great glimpse into the past. The officer is in his full uniform, with tall boots and is ready for battle with his sword strapped on, and his saddle bags hanging from the rear of his saddle. It looks like there is a saddle holster on the front of the saddle. This is one of the most appealing CW photos I’ve found lately… great subject, great composition… and a true glimpse of life in the field. 1002i – Autographed CDV of General McClellan – This is a nice standing view of Little Mac’ posed beside an upholstered chair in Whipple’s Boston photo studio. What makes this piece so wonderful is that McClellan inscribed and signed the back in ink. He signed his standard autograph … “Geo B McClellan Maj Gen USA” and then wrote “Boston Feb 5th 1863” This is signed in ink on the reverse side, and shows the studio mark of “Whipple, 96 Washington Street, Boston”. A very fine autographed carte. Image has slight fading but overall Very Good. A very significant autograph for the Civil War or Political collector… Remember, Mac ran against Lincoln for president in 1864. vxggetss $975.00

1002j – E. Anthony CDV of Maj. Gen. Burnside – This is a great photograph of of Major General Burnside. This studio image was taken by Brady, and later E. Anthony made this photograph from the original negatives. This is a superb print with great detail and contrast. As you can see he is carrying a rare 1842 Staff Officers’s sword. $100.00

1002k – Rare Autographed CDV Photo of French Nobleman and McClellan Aide Robert D’ Orleans. A nice early war Brady view of one of the French nobles who came over to observe the war and served on McClellan’s staff. Signed – autographed in ink at the bottom “Robert D’Orleans Capt. & A.D.C” Very very rare Carte to find autographed. Brady, Washington stamp at bottom, slightly trimmed at left. A very gallant portrait, the officer wears his staff officer’s kepi with the chinstrap down, regulation frock with staff captain’s straps, a sword belt and sash and a large cavalry saber with sword knot at his side. A tall pair of riding boots finishes of the ensemble. These officers served actively in the field during the Peninsular Campaign. A most historic autographed photo. $395.00

1002l – CDV Photo Capt John L. Worden Commander of The Monitor: From life, original CDV photo of famed Naval Commander John Lorimer Worden who commanded the USS Monitor in the most famous of Navy Battles… The Monitor and The Merrimack (CSS Virginia). Shows Worden in his finest civilian clothes circa 1865 or 1866. Views of Worden are extremely scarce. Far rarer than Custer, Lincoln, Jeb Stuart etc… but not priced nearly as high. As an aside, I own Worden’s brother’s uniform.. Lt. Col. Frederick Worden 13th Michigan and one of the buttons on his coat is a Maryland button sent to him by brother John. 1002m – Spanish American War Rough Rider Grouping: Pvt. Lyman Whited… The real deal !!!

1.Model 1898 Cavalry Uniform Tunic and Pants: The uniform issued to Rough Rider Lyman Whited. The first pattern 5-button khaki cavalry uniforms were first issued for service on May 23rd, 1898 under General Order #51 and were the only khaki uniforms issued to troops fighting in Cuba. Colored facings on the collars, epaulets, cuffs and pocket flaps designated branch of service: yellow for cavalry, blue for infantry and red for artillery. Tunics were issued with matching khaki parade belts secured by two enlisted man’s brass eagle buttons. General Order #51 lasted 75 days ending August 6th 1898. After only 75 days the army dropped the branch facings on the collar, cuffs and pocket flaps leaving only a service designation on the epaulets. Whited wrote his name in each and every piece.

2.As per regulation, metal rings secured the tunic’s brass eagle enlisted man’s buttons so they could be easily removed when washing the tunic. The matching khaki straight leg trousers have a size adjustment buckle on the back and suspender buttons.

3.Model 1889 standard issue campaign hat worn during the Spanish American War. The hat shows the typical signs of service wear. The sweatband remains in tact, there’s a small separation to the hat ribbon around the crown and a few small holes in the front where the regimental insignia was probably pinned. Withed wrote his name on the inside of the hat.

4.Whited’s cavalry issue khaki leggings are stamped size “1” with a makers mark. The leggings are 14 inches tall with laces and leather straps.

5.First Rough Rider Reunion badge from 1899

Only a handful of Rough Rider uniforms have survived. This grouping came directly from the family with a notarized letter of authenticity and remains one of the true examples from what many consider to be America’s most famous regiment, Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders.

1002n – Handy Man Special Allen & Wheelock 22cal. sidehammer – This is a nice pocket rimfire revolver from the 1860s. Low serial number 559. I believe this is the third issue, which is a bit on the scarce side. The gun is very attractive and nearly complete but needs a mainspring and the small retaining catch under the cylinder pin. Aside from these two parts the gun is in very good condition, and is all original. I think the main spring will be an easy fix and the retaining catch a fairly easy job for someone with a little metal shop talent. Bargain priced $165.00

1002p – Scarcest Variant Connecticut Arms Co. Pocket revolver with a 3” octagon barrel. This gun is in near fine condition * with hints of finish and sharps edges. However it is * missing the ejector lever which mounts to the right side of the frame and should be relatively easy for a handy person to fabricate. Action works great. The grips are fine with nice color, and the frame has about half the original silver finish still present. Strong firm markings on the barrel, and two lines of patents 1864 and 1866 stamped on the cylinder. Serial number is 2675. A very nice specimen, just needing a simple ejector lever made. From the reconstruction era and Wild West days… Very nice $350.00

1002q – Slater Bros. Dagger – This is a great dagger made by famed “Slater Brothers Splendid Cutlery” and is marked as such on the ricasso.. The knife measures 10 inches overall with a 6 inch double edged blade.The handle is bone with brass pins to secure it to the tang, and a rectangular silver inlay. The scabbard is in Fine condition, and fits perfectly to the blade, and as you can see, it was designed to be fit into a leather frog so it could be hung from the waist. A very nice antique dagger. $695.00

1002r – Rare Woodhead Bowie Knife / Dagger – This knife was made by the renowned maker GEORGE WOODHEAD & SON and is so marked. Woodhead made some of the finest and most collectible daggers and Bowie knives from the days of the Gold Rush up to the Civil War. They were in business ca 1845 to 1860s. They had a prominent blade shop on Howard St. in Sheffield making knifes and razors, and boat loads of their products were shipped to the USA and carried in the gold fields and on the battlefields. This belt knife is almost 9 inches long, with 5 inche blade. The scabbard is a solid with a few minor repairs. The knife is in good solid condition but shows its age with some pitting on the blade and damage to the ivory grip. This is a wonderful early knife with infinite appeal. The handle is ivory and rosewood and has some minor damage that you can see in the images. A real Woodhead knife with an affordable price tag… $675.00
